Tour Itinerary
Day One We depart for Oslo, capital of Norway and center of Scandinavia.
Day Two We tour Oslo as a local seeing the sites that locals would want to see and other tours miss. We will tour city hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded. This is the first of two Stockholm comparisons. The other is the Royal Palace. We will not just see those magnificent palaces from the outside, but we will have a tour on the inside as well. Live like a King for a day! Norway and Sweden compete in everything, and these two iconic buildings are a part of that.
Day Three We continue to tour Oslo, one of the prettiest cities in Europe if not the world. From there we will visit the Oslo cathedral and the Akershus Castle. Probably the coolest and most unique attraction in town is Vigeland Park. This sometimes is described as bizarre, pure art or just really different. It is a sculpture masterpiece of one man. It tells the story of mankind in a most visual way. Afternoon is free to visit museums, shop or just take in the ambiance of this world-class city.
Day Four It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that awaits us today—a cruise in the fjord lands of Norway. The beautiful mountains, crystal clear waterways and scenic villages make this a day to remember.
Day Five We cross the border into Sweden today. We tour the Karlstad area this morning. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Sweden due to the amazing lakes. We will visit one of the few remaining 13th century wooden churches with rare and exquisite 14th and 15th century ceiling and wall paintings. We will also see manor houses and giant Picasso sculptures in the lesser visited areas of Sweden. We will tour Orebro known for its haunted castle and water tower that you can go up and get a panorama of the area.
Day Six We tour Stockholm this morning including the City Hall where the Nobel Prize banquet is held. Which City Hall is best? Also, we will get inside the Swedish Royal Residence as well. One word describes it—Incredible. We will tour the Gamla Stan area or the Old Town filled with Royal Palaces, the Great Cathedral, the Parliament and some of the most delicious bakeries.
Day Seven We have one of the best day trips planned ever. We will take a boat to a special island—Birka where archeologists have found unbelievable Viking ruins. We will see the excavations as well as reconstructed areas, historically accurate, to immerse ourselves in that iconic era. We will also have a chance to see how the local wildlife exists in this ecosystem.
Day Eight We have a free morning to explore this remarkable city. Have a special museum? Want to hunt for souvenirs in the market? Just want to people watch? This is the city for that. This afternoon we take a short flight to Helsinki.
Day Nine Today we explore the beautiful city of Helsinki. We will visit the unique Rock Church that is literally built out of and into rocks with an amazing copper coil roof. The Sibelius Monument is one of the most memorable and breathtaking sculptures in the world. We will also see the famous Olympic Stadium, the architectural distinct Finlandia Hall and the classical Orthodox Cathedral.
Day Ten We head out to Porvoo, one of the only four Finnish medieval towns left. This town grew up along the river of the same name from 1200 AD on. The city is home to many architecturally distinct buildings and focal point for many Finnish artists. We head on to Kotka and visit the imperial fishing lodge of Russian Czar Alexander III. This is one of the great treasures of Finland that few know about. The waterfalls nearby was the salmon hole.
Day Eleven What an incredible journey through 3 of the most interesting, historic, beautiful and friendly countries on earth. We come home with memories of Vikings, beautiful waterways, lavish palaces, Nobel prizes and great architecture.
