Tour Itinerary

Day One We fly to Italy this afternoon for a tour that is brand new to Passport or anyone.

Day Two We land in Milan and make our way to the playground of Hollywood royalty and the elite–Lake Como.  We tour the area by boat and see the beauty of the region and some of the fine architecture it is known for including the Villa Del Balbianello, also known as the Star Wars Villa. We overnight in Lake Como.

Day Three We depart this morning for the area known as Cinque Terre or “Five Lands”. These 5 fishing villages along the coast will make you say, “that’s what I’ve always wanted to see in Italy!” The colors of the buildings and setting on the coast make this UNESCO site just breath-taking. We visit a winery to learn about the white wine that this region is known for before taking a boat tour that makes its way through the Cinque Terre and ends at sunset. Overnight in Porto Venere area.

Day Four We continue on to Parma today famous for its Parma ham and Parmesan cheese. We will take a tour that will explain what makes these two famous the world over. We visit Parma’s Old Town which looks like an Italian dream city before checking into our hotel. Overnight in Parma.

Day Five Our destination today is the UNESCO city of Venice. Now, if you’ve been on our typical Venice tour, you have been to Venice…but you have never stayed IN Venice! Bill will give you his famous Venetian’s Venice tour, before giving you the rest of the day to explore, shop, people watch and enjoy this UNESCO World Heritage site and fabulous city.

Day Six The next stop has become synonymous with “malarkey”. It is anything but! Bologna is a beautiful town with classic architecture, history and super sports cars. After we tour the city and its iconic steeples and towers, we’ll visit the Lamborghini factory and see what makes these cars so special (and pricey) and then we’ll visit the car museum and see some of their finished products through the years.  We overnight in Bologna.

Day Seven Get out your passports!  We are going to another country–the 5th smallest country in the world and UNESCO site–San Marino. We have a cable car ride to get a nice overview of this charming little country and visit the Basilica and National Museum. You have the afternoon free to take in the rest of the country on your own and you can because anyone could walk it end to end in just a few hours! We overnight in San Marino.

Day Eight We head back to Italy and visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sienna. This hilltop town in Tuscany is the perfect example of a medieval Italian city.  It is built around the Piazza del Campo and is the foundation for the city’s planning.  This afternoon we head to Orvieto, what everyone wants a tiny town in Italy to look like. Winding streets of cobblestone, tiny bakeries and butchers and of course, wine.  We overnight in Orvieto.

Day Nine We tour Orvieto’s hilltop (don’t worry you don’t have to climb the hill) and then go underground to tour its wells and some of its 1200 caves. Orvieto’s Cathedral will take your breath away with its colorful façade. We move on to see the Etruscan necropolises of Cerveteri and Tarquinia, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Here we will learn about the burial practices from the 9th to 1st centuries BC–the time even before the Romans.

Day Ten We begin our journey home with fabulous food, amazing sites and the Best of Italy in our hearts.
