Tour Itinerary
Day One We Go West today—about as far west as you can go on the Continent to Vancouver. Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in North America. It has one of the top 2 aquariums in the world. We will visit the aquarium to get a sample of what we will see tomorrow, but we do more, much more than just visit the aquatic exhibits, we have a behind-the-scenes tour that regular patrons would be envious of.
Day Two We start the day with a whale watching cruise. We will go along the coast of Vancouver Island famous for its Orcas, but at this time of year, humpback, minke and grey whales are found here as well. We will also look for seals, sea lions, bald eagles, puffin, bears and sea otters. This is a wildlife treasure trove. This afternoon, we will tour the city including Stanley Park—one of the largest, most scenic wild city parks, World’s Fair sites, the extensive harbor and the Granville Island area.
Day Three We head into the wilderness of British Columbia today. Our first stop is EC Manning Park set in the midst of the Cascade Mountains. This is a scenic park with numerous species like moose, black bear, marmots, mule deer and over 200 species of birds. From there we head to one of the 100 most scenic wonders of the world—Spotted Lake. The lake is literally spotted—making it one of the most unusual sites you will ever see.
Day Four We venture into the Canadian Rockies today visiting two of the lesser known but awesomely beautiful parks. Mount Revelstoke National Park is home to some of the largest most impressive trees in Canada. It is also a haven for big game including the elusive Woodland Caribou. We next visit Glacier National Park and the highest point on the Trans Canadian Highway. The visitor’s center has a great film and display explaining how they keep this highway open throughout the winter. Keep your eyes open for moose and bear.
Day Five Today you will walk on a glacier—yes, right on it. The Athabascan Glacier is a massive glacier that will blow you away with its many shades of blue. Specifically designed vehicles will drive you on top of the glacier and then you can get out and walk on it. They say drinking the glacial water there will reverse the aging by 10 years. We will be watching for black and brown bear, wolves, elk, mule deer, moose and much more.
Day Six We will see one of the wonders of nature today—The Maligne Canyon. At times the deep gorge is narrow enough to jump from one side to the other—but don’t! The river cut through these rocks is a magnificent work of nature. We will visit the disappearing Medicine Lake and the beautiful, serene Maligne Lake. All the time we will be watching for the abundant wildlife.
Day Seven We will drive the awe-inspiring Canadian Rockies parkway marveling at the beauty of the snowcapped mountains, astonished by the close wildlife and shocked (in a good way) by the many hues of the rivers and lakes along the roadway. Two of the very famous lakes are Morraine and of course the iconic Lake Louise. We will investigate both. We end our day with a say at the Castle in the Rockies—the famous Banff Springs Hotel. Walk and sleep where the rich and famous have for decades.
Day Eight We leave the Rockies today and head into the wild west town of Calgary. The Calgary Stampede is a wild west show on steroids. From a huge Native First Nations Village to horse shows to farm exhibits to hoe downs and trained animal acts to country singers—this is a giant, giant show. The evening chuckwagon races (yes, they race chuckwagons) and the “Big” show are the capstone of this entertainment juggernaut and we have your tickets to this sold out extravaganza . It is the best outdoor show anywhere with singers, dancers, stunt performers and a wild fireworks display. This is a fitting end to this great trip to the Canadian west.
Day Nine We fly home with bears, moose, elk, and whales swimming in your minds coupled with majestic mountains, multicolored lakes and a show to end all shows.
