Tour Itinerary

Day One  We begin on the best wildlife tour in South America.  This is an exciting opportunity to see all of the Big 12 Amazon creatures in one trip.  We, or for that matter, no one, has ever offered a trip where we will guarantee animal sightings.

Day Two  We land in Cuiaba and proceed to our first wildlife lodge where we will see ocelots (third biggest cat in the New World), Jaribu Storks (look INTO their nest), Caiman and Cabybara to start the Big 12.  Ocelot are nearly impossible to see, but here they are a guarantee.  For those that want to horseback ride, that is also available.

Day Three  Another Big 12 day looking for Marsh deer (largest in South America), peccary and tapirs.  Besides Big 12 sightings, we will see several parrot and macaw species, toucan, birds of prey and many monkey species.  You will need multiple camera cards to capture this menagerie.

Day Four  We transfer to Jaguarland Lodge where the biggest cat in the New World is a guarantee.  Yes, guarantee!  This is jaguar central with over 190 individual cats identified so far.  In fact, if we spot a new  cat (that happens regularly), we get to name it.

Day Five  Another day in Jaguarland.  This is also one of the best places in the world to spot two more Big 12 species—Hyacinth Macaws and Giant Otters.  Hyacinth Macaws are the largest and the most beautiful in the parrot family.  Their deep blue and yellow markings are unmistakable.  Giant River Otters are called the wolves of the Amazon as they hunt in packs and are feared by all.

Day Six  One more day in Jaguarland looking for animals and birds not in the Big 12 like several monkey species, aquatic birds like the beautiful Agawa Heron as well as all 5 species of Kingfishers.

Day Seven   We transfer from Jaguarland to another area of the Wilds of Brazil.  We overnight in Campo Grande before we head into a private reserve with another guaranteed Big 12 sighting.

Day Eight  Today we tour a private reserve where the illusive Giant Anteater is found in abundance.  This is one of the hardest animals to see in the world and one of the strangest looking.  We should see 5-10 of these prehistoric –looking creatures a day.  In addition, we may even see them carrying their young on their back.

Day Nine  We head to “Macaw Canyon” today where dozens of Red and Green Macaws are seen at a time.  This is a must for any birder or wildlife enthusiast.  We will also see Capuchin monkeys, toucans, tapirs and literally hundreds of bird species.

Day Ten  Today we visit the amazing crystal clear waters full of several habituated species of wild fish including freshwater rays.  The bird sightings here include close photo opportunities with parakeets and other colorful species.

Day Eleven  We head to our last destination—Wolf Camp.  This was so named for the guaranteed viewing of the largest canine in South America—the Maned Wolf.  But there is so much more including a Hyacinth Macaw Blind where you get very close to these magnificent birds.

Day Twelve We are out in the park where we will see the last of our Big 12—the Maned Wolf.  These apex predators rule this savannah-like area.  Today we will visit a troop of Bearded Capuchin monkeys called the Einstein Monkeys for their ability to use tools to open palm nuts.

Day Thirteen We will be after the many other birds and animals that call this region home including Blue and Gold Macaws, Burrowing Owls, the almost attractive King Vultures, the large Red-legged Seriemas, Tufted eared Marmosets and the Black and Gold Howler Monkeys.

Day Fourteen  We begin our journey home after one more wildlife adventure.  This specially designed trip will open the wildlife of South America to you in a way few will ever see in many trips to the Amazon and Pantanal area.

Day Fifteen  We arrive in Chicago with memories of ocelots, giant anteaters, giant otters, Hyacinth Macaws, monkeys, capybara, Jaribu Storks, toucans, crystal clear water filled with fish and of course the prize of all—Jaguars.
